چکیده

Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum L.) is the most popular vegetable world-wide. Tomatoes crop and yield is suffered every year due to number of pathogenic diseases. Such diseases are caused by fungi, bacteria, viruses and nematode, develop through soil-borne, above-ground infections and in some instances are transmitted through insect feeding. Although some general review on the fungal diseases of vegetables have been compiled by different workers. However, no comprehensive review is available on the fungal rot of tomato. The present review gives inclusive information regarding various pathological aspects on the fungal rot of tomato and management strategies opted for post harvest diseases of tomato.

The Effect of UV-C Irradiation on Rot Control and Postharvest Quality of Greenhouse Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum cv. Newton)

Tomato is one of the most important horticultural crops that is corruptible and susceptible to microbial contamination. In this study, the effect of UV-C at five different irradiation intensities (0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 kJ/m2) on rot control and postharvest quality of greenhouse tomato was investigated. Tomato (cv. Newton) fruits were harvested from a commercial greenhouse at vine-ripe stage and aft...

Silver nanoparticles, a potential alternative to conventional anti-fungal agents to fungal pathogens affecting crop plants

Metallic silver nanoparticles have been reduced from silver nitrate by employing the extracellular enzymatic machinery of edible White button Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus). The physical properties of these particles, size and shapes have been determined using techniques like TEM, FTIR and XRD and were reported in our earlier report. But, what stands of paramount importance in the presen...

Heterologous Expression of the Secale cereal Thaumatin-Like Protein in Transgenic Canola Plants Enhances Resistance to Stem Rot Disease

Canola (Brassica napus L.) is an important oilseed crop. A serious problem in cultivation of this crop andyield loss, are due to fungal disease stem rot caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The pathogenesis-related(PR) proteins have the potential for enhancing resistance against fungal pathogen. Thaumatin-like proteins(TLPs) have been shown to have antifungal activity on variou...

Collimonas fungivorans, an unpredicted in vitro but efficient in vivo biocontrol agent for the suppression of tomato foot and root rot.

Although bacteria from the genus Collimonas have demonstrated in vitro antifungal activity against many different fungi, they appeared inactive against the plant-pathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. radicis-lycopersici (Forl), the causal agent of tomato foot and root rot (TFRR). Visualization studies using fluorescently labelled organisms showed that bacterial cells attached extensively t...
